5 Years Of Weekly Vlogging - Slowing Down

It’s been quite some time since the last post. I admit I could have committed more on this blog but it is what it is. Let’s see. What updates do we have? Vlogging. After 5 years of vigorous weekly vlogging, I decided to slow down. I decided that consistency no longer applies to me. Now that my Youtube channel managed to cross 1,000 subscribers (31 December 2020) and 4,000 watch hours (24 September 2021), I see no other purpose to keep posting on a weekly basis. Reaching this level was a goal that I set right from the beginning and I know it’s a bit cliché to say this but it has never been about the money. It was about setting a milestone that I can aim for. Indeed, reaching this milestone may appear easy to some but for most of us, it is/was EXTREMELY difficult. To meet monetization requirements, one needs to gain a minimum of 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours. Both of which are nearly impossible to obtain if you do not have the passion, skills, and patience. It was a smart m...

A Realization

Today marks the day that I realize I’m slowly dying. As I woke up for the 14,612 th time, the earth finished its 39 th rotation around the sun since I first opened my eyes on this world. I took my 194 millionth breath, then I rose up, took a shower and brushed my teeth for the 28,470 th time. I got dressed and combed my hair for the 13,238 th time. I walked along the hall and down to solid ground. I said good morning to my wife and kids for the 5,112 th time and all of a sudden, I was reminded that nothing was permanent. I sipped my 2,100 th cup of coffee and headed out to my car. I twisted the key for the 16,792 nd time and as I set out on a new adventure, I was hit with nice memories of past adventures now faded in time. As I parked my car, I take my 52 millionth step and I realized that as I take these steps, I’m not just counting up but I’m counting down as my remaining steps left to be taken slowly shrink. It’s in this moment that I realize that I’m slowly dying, folks....

My Children

Ever since my children were born, I’ve been having this innate fear of losing them. I’m not talking about death or them leaving the nest one day. I’m talking about the inevitable event where they start to grow apart from you as they transition into their teenage years. They will prioritize friends and adulthood over you and as a parent, this must be devastating. No more will they want to hug and cuddle with you as they used to when they were little. They would prefer to hang-out with their friends instead of spending time with you. Of course they would occasionally join you to the mall, grocery shopping and stuff but there will be this gap that we feel as the distance between us grows larger and larger over the years. Before you know it, they graduate school and leave the nest and you will ask yourself “how the hell did they grow up so fast?” My routine is to go to work, get home, have dinner with the family and close the day off with some coffee and Youtube alone in the guest room f...

My Sony A7C - 1 Year Review

I bought the world's smallest and lightest full frame mirrorless camera, the Sony A7C about a year ago, on 16 August 2021. This camera was meant to be an upgrade to my Canon G7X MII which I use for vlogging. So here is my 1 year review of this camera. Well, not really a comprehensive review. Just my experience and opinion having used it for 1 whole year. A lot of people are divided with this camera. People complain a lot about it, especially the professionals. The truth is, professionals are not part of Sony's target market with this camera. Let's break it down.  The three most common sensor sizes with interchangeable lens system cameras are micro four thirds (small), APSC (medium) and full frame (large). Now, professionals will almost always go for full frame due to its large sensor which yields better quality, more detail, better low light capability and better bokeh (background blur) to name a few. Consumers, hobbyists and enthusiasts will typically avoid full frame an...

The Art Of Vlogging And Where It's Heading

What is a blog? More so, what is a vlog? I am fulfilled and satisfied after having produced a video every week for the last 4 years. It made me happy and boosted my confidence. But what is the endgame here? Where is the finish line and what would it look like? I sure love the journey but am genuinely curious as to where this is heading. When it comes to vlogging, I do have set goals which I strive for. My view on the art went from curious to passionate to obsessive and now, sustained and maintained. I’m not sure where this journey will take me but I’m pretty sure it evolves with time. There’s really no way to tell where we would end up, for better or worse. I learned a lot through this experience. I spent a lot as well. I invested in quality gear. I invested a lot of time into researching, shooting and editing. And none of these I regret. In fact I value this experience and I enjoy the whole process of making a video. These videos may sometimes seem boring and mundane, but to ...

Hello, Blog. We Meet Again!

It's been a while since I last wrote here. Where do I even start? My last entry to this site was in December 2020. A lot of stuff happened since then. I'll try to cover the notable ones that I can remember.  After more than 4 years of planning and anticipating, me and the family finally moved to the new house. Moving is not easy. And through my experience and a few others' as well, there's no amount of planning that can guarantee a problem-free transition. We had a few bumps here and there but overall, the whole process went kinda smooth. Although we moved in December last year, we still had to live at the old house throughout January and February 2022. Due to Covid, school semesters end in February the following year instead of the usual December. So we find ourselves spending our weekdays at the old house and only going back to the new house on weekends. During our stay here at the old house, we have to endure the absence of a washing machine, TV and beds. We all slee...

2020. A Curse Or A Blessing?

With the Covid-19 pandemic spreading across the globe, causing countless countries to shut down, Malaysia is no exception. We implemented the Movement Control Order (MCO) on 18 March. Cases of infection went up, then it went down. But then it went back up again and from the looks of it, this damn virus isn't going away anytime soon. Before we know it, the year is closing to an end.   This is the first time humans have encountered such a threat. We've had our fair share of infectious diseases throughout history but never to this extent. We will be talking about this event for many generations to come. It effected everyone and everything especially the economy. A lot of companies went out of business. A lot of hotels shut down for good as the country closes its borders. So many people lost their jobs and for those who get to keep them, they had to work from home. Thank god I didn't lose my job but I had to work from home for 2 months straight, starting from March until May. W...
