"Chasing You"

The Pool Art Project - Chasing You (acoustic)

My very first experience recording an acoustic song was this one, done & completed in the month of October 2012. Epul spontaneously decided to record this with me while we were awaiting the completion of the song Sunblock
which i had already finished recording the drum track for. Yeah, for those who don't know, to produce a proper song, each instrument has to be recorded separately, including the vocals. In late September 2012 as we were looking for a recording studio to start the project, i googled and came across these two studios ; IZ Studio in Wangsa Maju and BOM Productions in Desa Melawati. Ironically enough the first studio provides track-by-track recording for all instruments except drums. And the second studio, which specializes in vocal recording and dance classes, only allows drum track recording at the time due to lack of instruments/equipments. So i had my first recording experience doing the drum track there, which was where we also did the song Chasing You using our own guitars (BOM Productions allowed this because we brought our own guitars, and they provided the recording equipments).

This song was in fact written by Epul way back in 1999 when we were schoolkids jamming for fun. I admit it, Epul sure has talent in writing songs, and he has a bunch of them. Some he remembers but unfortunately most of them he forgot. So at BOM Productions, we recorded his rhythm guitar first, using his own acoustic guitar. Followed by my classical guitar doing the accompaniment and solo for the song. Just as i expected, the combination of these two different guitar types produce this beautiful fusion of semi-acoustic sound. Then Epul did the finishing touch on the vocals. We spent hours in the studio but it only took about 2 hours of recording time (one hour each) to complete the song. Not to brag or anything but that was quick..considering we went to the studio spontaneously without any practice whatsoever. We were in the zone and we did it successfully. That, being our first song to ever be recorded completely in the history of our entire music-driven lives, became a marking point for me. We both felt this extreme sense of fulfillment. The excitement. We felt so proud of ourselves to finally pull this off (we had always wanted to record a demo since we were kids) that we actually celebrated. For me, the moment was so majestic that it felt rather...euphoric! Well, i guess there's a first time for everything. And this one got me addicted to making more.

Becoming A Tiktok Affiliate

For months, I’ve been pondering whether or not I should start promoting products on TikTok as a TikTok Affiliate. On one hand, I already have a catalog of original content that I create on TikTok. On the other hand, promoting products on the platform could turn into a side hustle, helping me bring in some extra income. The only question that remains is this: If I start doing affiliate marketing on TikTok, will it betray my followers and viewers? Imagine being in their shoes. You go on TikTok to watch your favorite creators doing their thing, but instead of seeing creative content, you start seeing them promote skincare and household products. That would be disappointing, to say the least. I asked my family and friends about it, and they all said the same thing: In this day and age, everyone could use some extra money, and it makes perfect sense to seize such an opportunity. Not everyone is eligible to become a TikTok Affiliate, though. You need at least 1,000 followers to unlock the ...

Malays Are Not In Danger. Fear Is The Real Danger.

Malays have long carried a fear, the idea that the Chinese will one day take over the country. Traumatized by the 13th May incident and with politicians further amplifying the notion during every election season, this belief became deeply rooted. It is repeated in family conversations, passed down through generations, and used as a convenient tool to divide Malaysians. But when we examine this narrative closely, it does not hold up. It is not reality. It is strategy. Let’s debunk it. Malaysia’s Parliament has 222 seats. To amend the Constitution or make any major changes, a government would need two thirds, which is 148 seats. In the 2018 general election, Pakatan Harapan, with DAP included, won 113. In 2022, they won 82. Both numbers were far short of 148. And no Chinese-majority party has ever, in the history of Malaysia, controlled Parliament on its own. The only way to form government has always been through coalitions that include Malay-led parties. Beyond numbers, the Constitutio...

Vlogging Cured My Social Anxiety

Although I no longer post weekly vlogs, I still pick up the camera every now and then. I want to share how vlogging helped me grow socially and rebuild my confidence. For most of my life, I’ve been introverted. Crowds and social situations made me anxious, and I often felt like I didn’t quite fit in. Over the years, those feelings grew heavier, to the point where my confidence took a real hit. Speaking in front of people — or even being in a busy room — could trigger panic, sweating, and an overwhelming urge to escape. Then in 2018, I stumbled into vlogging. At first, it was just an experiment — a way to push myself into discomfort. I set myself a 50-vlog challenge, and by the time I hit my 50th, I realized I loved it. I kept going for years, posting regularly until 2023, when I slowed down. What I didn’t expect was the transformation. Vlogging forced me to step outside my shell, to speak up, and to share my voice openly. Over time, my confidence came back stronger than ever. Speaking ...
